Trust

Oh, uncertainty, you deep well of aching pain!
How do I close you off and avoid you?

Oh, uncertainty, you–with your waves of dread!
What jetty will keep me safe from you?

Oh, uncertainty, you ever-present evil!
How do I learn to live with you?

Who knows the future, but God, who is present in it?
How we humans long to reveal its secrets–

But would we have to courage to look into the crystal ball
If we had the chance to see our fate?

Would you want to know when and how
You and your loved ones will die?

For die they must, and die they will.
Would you want to know how long it is before you are forgotten?

Or can you look up at the Heavens and pray:
“Lord, your will be done…

I may not see Your wisdom now, but I trust that Your plans
Are always best–and that is enough for me.”
