you are my temporary bodyache
beating broken bruised
pull me in for a kiss
i cease to desire you

you exist, but you are fading
cornered by the shadows
hands clenched, knuckles white
trembling breath and hazy view

and i am on the rooftop
gazing at the twinkling sky
the city and the stars are one
what side of the horizon are you on tonight?

i pitch forward, you lean back
and into morning we will both ascend
wind blows through the city, whispering low
hushed ‘i love you’s as the moonlight fades
