Frequently asked Questions

What is The Love Story?

The Love Story Media, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)3  grounded upon 1 Corinthians 13, that fuses journaling, journalism, and the personal journey, designed to inspire the broken hearted to transform pain into passion, self-destruction into creative expression, and our love loss into the love story. We exist to shift the perception of what pain is–not as something to be ashamed, dismissed, or avoided, but as an opportunity to grow emotionally, spiritually, and creatively. For more information visit our About page.

What if I’m not religious?

While our foundation was built on 1 Corinthians 13: “…Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known….” We are not inherently a Christian organization, though we do mention Christ as a foundational principle in Act Three in the parable revealing of God’s grace. We also bring in Taoist, Buddhist, and Jewish principals, as well as Jung and Freud psychology to our programming. We believe simply that love is the answer to hatred. Love is the answer to self-doubt and trauma. If your love comes in the form of atheism, of Wicca/ Paganism, of Islam, of Buddhism or any other religion (or lack there of), you are welcome here. Our goal is self-reflection. Our goal is healing. Your beliefs are a part of that.

What is expressive journaling? How can it help me cope with Heartbreak?

Expressive journaling is the act of writing down your deepest emotions and feelings for the sake of understanding them and yourself better. Expressive journaling can be used to improve your mental and physical health. Baikie and Wilhelm in their article Emotional and physical health benefits of expressive writing, state that long term health benefits of expressive writing include, but are not limited to, lower blood pressure, better lung and liver function, and less illness leading to doctor’s visits. Additionally, expressive writing was noted to help with students’ grade point average, memory, and “re-employment after job loss.” For the full article, visit https://www.americansforthearts.org/sites/default/files/338full.pdf

What is Shadow Work?

How Can I Get published?

We offer a series of workshops and programs to get you writing your life story. Our goal is to help you write enough that you will, eventually, have written your memoir, life story, or enough poetry/ fiction to publish a book. Several of our journal-artists have succeeded in their publishing journey. You, as a journal-artist, will have access to speak and work with our published authors to learn important skills when it comes to self-publishing. However, we do not publish for you. We can assist you in your journey by suggesting artists, helping edit, and even leading you through the self-publishing process, but the rest is up to you!
