This journal entry is inspired by true events. Some of the characters, names, businesses, incidents, and certain locations and events have been fictionalized for dramatic purposes. Any similarity to the name, character or history of any person is entirely coincidental and unintentional.

Trigger Warning: our program often motivates people to discuss their trauma. If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed, please, take a step back to address emotional flashbacks and trauma before continuing to push yourself. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 or the National Suicide Hotline at (1-800) 273-8255.

Your secret is out, you are now exposed. You’re not as perfect as everyone thinks you are, so now you face reddens with anger, your eyes begin to drown in your tears, your lips being to shiver like a raisin. “What’s wrong, are you afraid to be judged?” “Are you wanting to be the only perfect family in the world?” “Well, I hate to break it to ya honey child, but you are not perfect, no family in this world is perfect.” What’s so wrong with that? So what I can’t read, is your love conditional? So what I don’t like dresses, is your love conditional? So what I’m not in college or went to a magnet school, is your love conditional? My hair is long, my voice is wide, my curiosity is endless, but you felt the need to hide, cut, and tap shut, for no one needs to know my beauty, by friendlessness, my compassion and my yearn to learn, no… that would be too much, for I must live and present myself by “the code,” your code. I study and try to perfect this code, through forceful blows of pain that causes me to bleed; bleed out red, out fear, out guilt, and out any ounce of self love, but this sacrifice is not enough. Now you are exposed, I am no longer that young girl you can control, but now I am a woman; an empowered black woman that took your pain, yells, rejection, and neglections, and turned them into inspirations and motivations. You are now exposed, and now expelled! Your words: expelled. Your criticism: expelled. Your slashes: Expelled. Your judgement, neglect, and rejection: Expelled. Your Existence: Expelled.
