Crystal is having an allergic reaction to mosquito bites, or so I assume. They usually swell up really big and that’s it, but yesterday they went outside and she came in with about fourteen bites. That’s more than she’s ever had before.

I’ve treated the yard for mosquitoes three times already and nothing has changed. Anyway, Crystal started coughing, sneezing, hacking up stuff last night. Her eyes turned red and her voice sounded internal; stuffy you know? She complained that her throat was hurting.

She finally went to sleep, then woke up at 3 a.m. and got into bed with me. I propped her Hello Kitty pillow under her head. Half asleep she looks at me, smiles and says “This is purrfect.” Then the silly girl laughed at herself. It was hilarious. She hasn’t lost her spirit. She gets that from her Dad.

She felt better today, but it came in spells. One minute she’d be up playing and the next minute she’d have to lay down. Now, here at bedtime, both her eyes are red again.

She’s so strong; physically and emotionally, and I guess I depend on her. Jennifer, our pediatrician called her my assistant, and she is. She helps me cook, clean, fold clothes; she helps me take care of the other kids when they are sick. She is my assistant, but she’s more. She is so much more. Crystal’s energy is vital to this family. She is the perfect Monarch. I will train her to take my place.
