Foxy

She will trudge through wet mud with you,

Will walk on ice and snow in the cold with you,

Push through car sickness to ride with you,

Wait long hours in unfamiliar houses with unfamiliar people for you,

Push through the fear of heights on high mountains just to be with you,

Walk through wind, waters, and tough weathers to walk the long roads with you,

Bear witness to your triumphs and failures with you,

Stay with you when she feels like going,

Wait for you when she feels like playing,

Follow you when she feels like resting,

Smile for you when you are feeling sad,

Cuddle up next to you when you are feeling bad,

Rest next to you when you feel like working,

Sleep next to you when you feel like resting,

Will smile for you to keep you calm,

Will stay present when you are disassociated and feeling absent,

Will hold space for your fears, your faith, and your focus,

Will walk towards you when you begin walk away,

Will wait for you outside when she can’t be there with you inside,

Will become the wings that coordinates with wind so you can take flight,

Will bear witness with you to tragedies and miracles alike,

Will bask in the warmth, the wonder, and joys with you in life,

Will see for you when you lose your own sight,

Will ride shotgun while listening to whatever music you like,

Will be your sidekick in any work, project, or hustle,

Will be there for any scene, no matter how frequently it changes,

Will explore caves, rivers, seas, and oceans with you,

Will explore ancient ruins and archeological sites with you,

Will be there for you through your breakups and your writing sessions,

Will fly across continents to help you learn your lessons,

Will ride with you through subways, trains, and busses,

Will be your companion through opera’s, movies, and live shows without fusses,

Will walk through museums, art galleries, and shops with you,

Will be there when you have your intellectual breakthroughs,

Bear witness to your small and big successes,

Will encourage you until your no’s become yes’s,

Will sit with you through sermons, lectures, and exhibits,

Will sit beneath the table while you eat your dinners, lunches, and breakfasts,

Will lay by your side at day and sit at your feet by night,

and wake up with you in the early morning sunrise,

Stay with you while you are having fits, fevers, or revelatory fun,

Stay by your side when you are studying, learning, and researching,

Will move through her fears of escalators, other dogs, other people and most children just to follow you,

Will hold her bladder through long rides because she trusts you will take her outside,

Will watch sunsets and sunrises and hike the long hikes with you,

Will warn you of dangers and people with energies that are not good for you,

Will keep the ghosts and demons away from you at night,

Will comfort you from nightmares and anchor you from anxieties,

Will rejoice in the beauty and the adventures with fervor and delight,

Will cross bridges, swim rivers, even kayak with you,

Will quarantine with you on remote islands so you can finally write that book you said you would all your life,

Will yelp with you through lightening storms and predators alike,

Will be and become your ever present witness,

Fully integrated in your light and darkness,

Watching you process your pain into passion and purpose,

Watching you rise from the ashes burnt by fire that once consumed you,

Bearing witness to your rise from your sufferings,

Still in your corner when you were down, fallen to the ground,

Warming your feet when it was cold,

Licking your cheeks when you wanted to fold,

Stayed by your side when you ugly cried,

Stayed by your side when you thought you were going to die from the flu that night,

Stayed by your side at the doctor’s room, at the laundry room, at the psychiatrist’s room,

Stayed in the car or in the hotel when they wouldn’t let dogs inside,

Ate leftovers, cleaned up the food on the floor, and still wagged her tail in delight,

Witnessing maturity by becoming content from the simple things in life,

Calming you when her anchoring presence came through,

More than just pet therapy, she was the anchor through your stormy seas,

She is why regaining your sanity, sobriety, serenity, while medication free, was a possibility,

She became your ultimate compassionate friend and best company,

She puts the most humble human to shame through her true humility,

In the perfection of Jesus Christ, her spirit thrives,

Even when she is no longer in the physical presence of your life,

She still exists in your heart, in your tears, refining your experience and character development in this life.

Thank you for bringing me this far in life,

One sweet day, I’ll be reunited with you again.

Love Always,
Your Friend, Mingjie Zhai
